Car Polishing Tips | Cumming Georgia

If you want to give your car that special sheen and shine, you have to know how to polish your car the right way. There are plenty of products to choose from and a number of techniques to incorporate to get the best results. Car polishing involves proper observation of your vehicle as well so that you can maximize the effects and let the shine last longer.

Clean It First

You should first clean your vehicle thoroughly by bringing it to a carwash or just washing it yourself. This will get rid of the dirt and dust that can hinder the shine during the polishing. The dirt on the paint will also scratch the paint if you do not clean the car properly. If you are using a mechanical buffer, you might increase the chances of developing blemishes and scratches unless you get your car washed. You might also need to detail the finish of the car. The item you need is a bar of detailing clay that will take out hard to remove particles and substances found on the surface of the car, like tree sap or tar.

Slowly Polish

Start polishing using either your hands or a mechanical buffer. The advantage of using your hands is that you can control the pressure and can go for hard to reach nooks and surfaces on your car’s exterior. The advantage of the mechanical buffer is speed and pressure, which keeps you from getting tired. It is recommended that you begin polishing on 2×2-foot areas each time. Move slowly over the entire car and allow the buffer to function excellently. You need to use overlapping strokes so that the buffer covers more area and you do not miss some important points.

Using the Buffer

The mechanical buffer also gives you the advantage of getting an even-looking polish. You also get the job done at a much faster rate than polishing by hand. Apply the polish initially by putting ample amounts on the buffer pad then spreading some on the finish of the car. Turn the buffer on. Be careful not to put too much polish on the pad or it might by thrown all over the place as the buffer starts to whirl.

The pad has to stay level to ensure that pressure is applied evenly. The polish section also needs to be buffed until everything is clear. Stop just before the polish dries. You need to observe how you will do the process. Certain details like putting the cord over your shoulder will help keep it out of the way and keep it from staying on the car’s finish. When the buffer is running, you need to keep it in contact with the surface of the car then turn it off just before you lift it up.

Final Buffer Tips

The pad should never touch the ground at any time. If you have a single grain of dirt on the buffer, your car can end up with a lot of scratches and blemishes because of the quick and rotating movement. If the buffer lands on the ground, you should either clean it thoroughly or just replace it, regardless of how clean it still might look.

Great for DIY

Clean Car Interiors do not only appear great, it also affects your health. Whether you are preparing this for car sale, services or simply want to keep clean, here are few tips to clean the interior of your car.

Vacuuming

Remove first the floor mats then vacuum the seats and the carpet. Reach under the seats, the area between front seats, around the pedals and the central console. Floor mats should be vacuumed separately outside the car. Use soft brush attachment to vacuum the doors and the dashboard. Be cautious not to damage sticking parts and knobs. The small attachment is also used in vacuuming the seats. Leather seats can easily be damaged, make sure not to scratch them by slowing the movement of the vacuum.

Fabric Seats and Door Upholstery Cleaning

Spray cleaner is only one od the upholstery cleaning agents available on the market. Just simply spray on the seat and door upholstery then rub forcefully. After, wipe it with a dry cloth to remove the dirt. If you don’t have the spray, laundry detergent works as well. Prepare a pail of warm water then mix some of the detergent. Dip a clean cloth and squeeze out. Do the process similar with the spray. Work strongly on dirty areas.

Be cautious with water inside the vehicle—if water gets into electric tools it may cause a problem. Water that gets inside the seats and under the carpet can also causes stains or foul smell days after.

Carpet Cleaning

Cleaning the carpet is the same as cleaning the seats and upholstery. Spray the carpet evenly and rub forcefully. After, wipe it thoroughly with a dry cloth. Laundry detergent also works on the carpet. Don’t soak the carpet with water because it will cause foul smell and stains under the carpet. Make it dry as fast as you can.

Dashboard Cleaning and Polishing

Moist cloth is used to clean a dashboard and other plastic parts. Use a small amount of laundry detergents or stain remover to remove dirt. Dry the area with a clean dry cloth. Spray polish and spread evenly with a brush to make the area shiny. Use clean dry cloth to dry-polish. Polish makes the dashboard shiny and also protects the plastic from damage.

Getting Rid of the Musty Smell from the Conditioner

Odor treatment is available in local auto accessories store. It kills microorganisms and removes the unpleasant musty smell from the vents when the air conditioner is turned on. If you notice some clogs in the air conditioner drain tube, consult a mechanic to check it to remove the accumulation of debris under the cowl cover.

Detailing Your Car and What’s Involved…

Auto detailing is considered as an art form, so take time to indulge and check the different offers by service centers and other private autodetailers.Be careful who you choose…

Exterior Focus

Auto detailing will focus on the exterior and interior aspects of the vehicle. Exterior detailing involves cleaning the whole outside of the car and making it a whole lot shinier. The paint, chrome trim, wheels, windows and tires are all treated to give it that special glow. Various auto detailers will need to use a variety of products like detail clay, wax, detergents, polishes and many cloths and applicators.

Interior Focus

The other focus is the interior detail which revolves around cleaning the seats, upholstery, dashboard and other inner features of the car. Vacuuming is always done, together with other procedures like brushing, liquid cleaning, steam cleaning, stain removal and upholstery treatment. A number of non-porous surfaces may also be polished. Some other detailers also provide engine detailing, wherein degreasers, high pressure water and steam are used to clean everything found under the hood of the car. Body work, mechanical repair, upholstery repair and painting are not included in auto detailing.

3 Main Factors

The three main components used in detailing the car’s exterior are cleaning, protecting and correcting. Cleaning describes all activities that aims to remove the foreign surface particles from outer regions via the use of quick detailing and washing. Clay bars will help rid the exterior of dirt. This cannot usually be taken out by weekly washing.

Correcting describes the mechanical polishing done by hand or with the use of a machine. There are also special polishing pads that take out a thin layer of clearcoat from the vehicle to take out small scratches and paint swirls that may have appeared from improper washing or drying. Protecting describes the application of a special material like paste or liquids that will keep foreign material from sticking to the vehicle’s surface like tar, bugs, splatter and dirt. Barriers are made from waxes and sealants against the elements.

Special Add-Ons

Detailing also involves adding materials and doing some tasks that will improve the overall condition and aura of the vehicle. You have to improve the fragrance, especially if there are leftover foods and other unwanted odors inside. Buy a good and effective air freshener and invest in sprays that will treat your mats and carpets to keep items from producing bad odors. You can also purchase some other items to help your car stay shiny and conditioned like sun visors, dashboard spray, upholstery spray and leather protectors. You should visit your local auto detailing store to see what your car really needs based on your lifestyle and location.
